AG Ken Paxton May Be Facing A Lawsuit For Violating State Law

It looks like Paxton’s involvement with the Jan.6 riots is coming back to haunt him. This time the Travis County DA determined that the AG violated the state’s open records law by not turning over his communications from last January, when he attended the Jan. 6 rally that preceded the Capitol attacks.

According to the Houston Chronicle, the district attorney gave Paxton 4 days to fix the matter or he could be facing a lawsuit. This issue was taken into consideration thanks to a complaint filed by a large number of Texas top newspaper editors, including the Austin American-Statesman, The Dallas Morning News, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the Houston Chronicle, and the San Antonio Express-News.

Jackie Wood, Head of the district attorney’s public integrity unit, sent Paxton a letter saying that her office’s investigations revealed that the attorney general’s office disregarded state law by failing to maintain or suppressing his own correspondence, which should have been made available to the public.

Paxton’s office did not immediately respond or comment to inquiries about the matter.
