Campaign Finance

Don Huffines, senator of the insurance companies

Well before the start of his own political career, State Senator Don Huffines (R-Dallas) skillfully played the special interest game to help his family business, sticking Collin County taxpayers with the bill. Now that he’s a member of the Texas Legislature, Huffines is raking in campaign cash from special interest donors, including lawyers and lobbyists, who have an agenda in Austin.
As Texans know all too well, money influences decision making by elected officials, and that’s exactly what special interest groups and political action committees (PACs) count on when they contribute to political campaigns. These groups further the careers of politicians like Don Huffines, and in return they expect them to vote their way on the issues they care about.
The political system in Austin is a rigged game in favor of the moneyed and powerful special interests at the expense of everyday Texans. And Don Huffines is playing right along.
Huffines has a record of voting in favor of his numerous donors. For example, while getting thousands of dollars from medical and insurance PACs, he voted against potentially life-saving cancer screenings for Texans.
Meanwhile, Huffines, who campaigns on election integrity, has been no friend to Texas voters.  He voted to limit Texas voters’ options at the ballot box and to make it harder for Texans to vote at all.
State Senator Don Huffines is just another part of the rigged political system in Austin – taking special interest money, voting to relax the rules on himself, and sticking it to everyday Texans.
