A ‘Mystery Man’ Shakes Up McKinney City Political Elections

A mystery that surfaced in McKinney City quickly turned into the next big political scandal and it all started with a simple phone call.

According to Rolling Stone, Paul Chabot, a Republican candidate in the race to be the area’s next representative in Texas’ House of Representatives, received a call from a “mystery man” saying his signs that were outside a local Walmart did not comply with code – according to his earlier visit at the store.

Chabot decided to further investigate, and received a disturbing surprise. According to City manager Paul Grimes, the “mystery man” didn’t exist and in fact no city employee had visited the Walmart to discuss the signs.

The situation took an eerie turn, when Chabot started receiving similar calls from other businesses that also claimed a mysterious “city employee” had visited them too.

Chabot decided it was time to file a police report asking local authorities to investigate, after several of his signs were stolen.

His campaign is blaming his primary opponent, Frederick Frazier, as a plot to tamper with his campaign. However, Frazier seems to believe it is Chabot who is pulling the strings – pointing to Chabot’s previous campaign in California, where conveniently a similar incident occurred.

“If you would do your homework, you should look at what happened years and years ago,” Frazier said to Rolling Stone.

In 2010, while running for a city council seat in California, the tires of his campaign vehicle were slashed by an unknown suspect. In 2014, Chabot was running in a California congressional primary when his campaign signs were vandalized.

So, while Chabot believes  “all roads lead to Frazier,” his opponent is not going down without a fight.

Frazier and Chabot are squaring off in a runoff primary election scheduled for May 24, and — at least before sign-gate escalated — Frazier had the upper hand. He also has all the bigger fish on his side, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, and — most importantly of all — former president Donald Trump.

Chabot believes this is more than a simple sign vandalism hoax, and has been keeping close tabs on the investigation. 

“What we know of the investigation is that this case is not just about sign theft and vandalism, but a more serious crime in Texas: impersonating a public official, and that is a felony,” Chabot told Rolling Stone.

This was four months ago and Chabot has gotten few answers, even with a state law enforcer, Texas Ranger J. Rodney Odom working the case.
