In a recent appearance on Fox 26’s What’s Your Point?, Andrew White, a candidate for Texas governor, outlined his vision for the state and his approach to leadership.

“We need a new approach. I’m an independent Democrat. So I have democratic values but independent thoughts and Austin today is completely broken,” White said. He emphasized focusing on practical issues rather than “performative culture war stuff,” adding, He said his priorities include improving public schools, strengthening hospitals, and investing in infrastructure.

“I think it is time that someone rolls up their sleeves and focuses on the things that matter: our schools, our hospitals, and our infrastructure.”

White criticized current education policies, noting Texas schools rank near the bottom nationally.

On education, White criticized Texas’ national ranking and contrasted his ideas with those of Gov. Greg Abbott. He argued that Texas schools have fallen behind over the past decade and said he would redirect a billion dollars toward universal full-day pre-K for all four-year-olds to give young Texans “a head start.”

He also questioned the reach of private school vouchers, pointing out there are only 200,000 to 300,000 private school seats for five million Texas children.

As a businessman with no prior elected office experience, White said he can offer voters a fresh alternative.

Reflecting on his business background, he said, “What are entrepreneurs good at? They’re good at creative solutions, hard work and team building, and all of that will translate into the governor’s office… We need a fresh start, and that’s why I’m running for governor.”

White, the son of former Gov. Mark White, also urged Democrats to consider electability in the November election: “I’m asking Democrats to vote for a candidate who can win in November… we need to do something different,” he said.
