James White Signals Challenge to Sid Miller for Agricultural Commissioner

On a recent visit to The Chad Hasty Show, Texas State Representative James White hinted at a potential run for Texas Agriculture Commissioner.

The six-term representative had previously announced he would be retiring as representative of District 19, but according to his recent statement, we’ll still be seeing him as part of Texas political life.

“I hope and really think I’ll be on the ballot again. I like the idea of being in the position to promote and protect Texas’ number one largest industry in the state. We need all Texans fighting, promoting, and protecting our Texas Agriculture,” said the 56-year-old Republican.

Speaker of the Texas House, Dade Phelan, tweeted support for White on Twitter, writing “Agriculture Commissioner James White has an excellent ring to it. Who is with me?”

White also added he’s worried about the state of Texas agriculture, in perhaps a preview of how he plans to run against Sid Miller, the incumbent Agriculture Commissioner, who recently  announced he’s running for re-election.

“Our Texas Agriculture is under siege on the border from trans-national gangs, under siege from all types of federal overreach and regulation, under siege from the economic market cartels that are driving down prices of our farmers and ranchers where they can’t make the money they deserve. We need Texans fighting and promoting and protecting our Texas Agriculture and I hope I’m in a position in the future to do that.”

Things are surely heating up inside the GOP, with three incumbent state officials now having a primary election coming up.

Gov. Abbott and Don Huffines are going against each other for the Governor run; AG Ken Paxton, Eva Guzman, and George Bush are vying for the Attorney General nomination, and now Miller and potentially, White, for Agriculture Commissioner.
