The Texas Democratic Party has announced that presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden will speak at the party’s virtual state convention next week.
In addition to Biden, U.S. Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) and former Texas Congressman and presidential hopeful Beto O’Rourke are joining the high-power lineup of speakers that already includes U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Sen. Kamala Harris of California, Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, and former HUD Secretary and San Antonio Mayor Julián Castro.
Biden will close out the week-long event that runs June 1-6. O’ Rourke will also speak on that Saturday.
“America is desperately in need of new leadership,” said Texas Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa. “We need a president who will lead with empathy and experience. Joe Biden is a man of character and compassion who has always fought for the working and middle class.
“Texas is the biggest battleground state in the country. With Joe Biden at the top of the ticket, Texas Democrats will help him win the White House. This is our moment.”
