Rep. Justin Rodriguez Appointed Bexar County Commissioner, Special Election Set for Feb. 12

(From left to right: Justin Rodriguez, Paul Elizondo)
State Representative Justin Rodriguez (D – San Antonio) was selected by Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff last Friday, January 4th to replace County Commissioner Paul Elizondo, who died two weeks ago. Rodriguez was sworn into office immediately thereafter, and is leaving his seat in the Texas House.
Precinct 2 County Commissioner Rodriguez will fill the remainder of Elizondo’s term, which ends in January 2023. The appointment creates a vacancy in Rodriguez’s House District 125, paving the way for a special election to finish his term.
Governor Greg Abbott issued a proclamation today setting the special election for House District 125 on February 12, 2019. The deadline for candidates to file with the Secretary of State to be on the ballot is Monday, January 14 at 5pm, exactly a week from today.
Early voting begins Monday, January 28, 2019.
Reform Austin will continue to follow and report on developments related to Texas House District 125 and the upcoming 86th legislative session.
