New Poll Shows Texans Don’t like Their Options for Governor

The race for the Governor’s seat has started and so have the polls.

A recent study by the University of Quinnipiac compares Texans’ preferences for Governor, in a possible scenario between Beto O’Rourke, Matthew McConaughey and Greg Abbott’s re-election.

As different as they may be from each other, the study reveals they do have one thing in common: low preferences for the job.

When asked about preferences for Democrat Rep. Beto O’Rourke, voters overall say 52 – 41 percent they would not like to see him run for governor. On Matthew McConaughey, who has not yet stated his party affiliation, 47 percent of the voters said they would not like to see him run.

The poll of registered voters in Texas which was released this Thursday evidenced that for the Lone Star State’s governor, 48 percent say he does not deserve to be reelected, in contrast to the 46 percent who believes he does.

The University of Quinnipiac’s report also shows that the current disapproval rating for Abbott is the highest yet, since being elected in 2018.

According to the results, Governor Greg Abbott receives a mixed job approval rating as 48 percent of Texas voters approve of the job he’s doing and 46 percent disapprove, a rating which remained almost unchanged from his 48 – 44 percent job approval rating in July of 2020.

“A Trump favorite in a state that is turning less red in recent election cycles, Abbott has a decent but in no way overwhelming grasp on re-election,” said Quinnipiac University Polling Analyst Tim Malloy.
