Trump Leads Harris On Election Night

Former President Donald Trump is leading the presidential race this Election Night. This doesn’t mean Trump will win, but he does hold an advantage over Vice President Kamala Harris.

At the time this article was written, the Associated Press reports that Trump has earned 247 electoral votes, while Harris has earned 214.

This election, seven states will very likely determine the outcome of the race. Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. So far, The Associated Press has already called the races for Georgia, and North Carolina.

Trump already has won North Carolina and Georgia giving him 32 electoral votes. So far, Trump needs 23 votes to win the presidency. It is highly unlikely that we’ll know the outcome of the race today. Last election results were accurate enough to call the victory for Biden on November 7, 2024, four days after Election Day.

We can expect to know the results of Nevada, Pennsylvania, Arizona and Wisconsin in the next few days. This is because state laws make it difficult for counting the votes rapidly and because mail-in voting in those states could take time. This is especially difficult, as initial results could give the lead to Trump, but the great majority of people that vote by mail are Democrats, and those votes are the last to be counted.

Trump has heavily appealed to conservatives around the country, promising mass deportations and to reduce costs of gasoline by boating gas production. He campaigned heavily with billionaire Elon Musk, even though Sen. J.D. Vance is his running mate. Musk provided millions of dollars and was responsible for changing the tides in Pennsylvania by making a controversial $1 million giveaway to voters.

Most European and Asian countries have already forecasted that, if Trump is elected president, it will bring further destabilization to international markets, by imposing new tariffs on imported goods. European countries believe this would lead to a tariff war.

While it is unclear whether Trump will win, Republicans are favored to win control over the Senate.
