A Texas A&M student from Laredo died early Saturday after attending a tailgate in Austin, reports Chron. Authorities say the circumstances surrounding 20-year-old Brianna Aguilera’s death remain under investigation.

According to the Austin Police Department (APD), officers were called to the 21 Rio apartment complex on Rio Grande Street just before 1 a.m. on November 29, where Aguilera was found unresponsive.

“When officers arrived on the scene, they located an adult female who was not responding,” APD confirmed to Chron. She was pronounced deceased at 12:57 a.m.

APD stated that “the incident is not being investigated as a homicide, and there are no indications of suspicious circumstances.” The Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause of death, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Aguilera, a United High School graduate and former cheerleader who finished Magna Cum Laude, was a Texas A&M student pursuing her goal of becoming a lawyer at the Bush School of Government & Public Service.

Her mother expressed doubts about the circumstances on Facebook, writing:

“This was not accidental someone killed my brie and gave all the group of friends a lot of time to come up with the same story. My daughter would not jump 17 stories from a building and to be labeling this as a suicide is insane… Certain friends left immediately and the person who lived at the apartment complex vacated her apartment ASAP.”

APD has not publicly responded to these allegations. Family members told KBTX that what happened after the tailgate remains unclear.

A GoFundMe page created in Aguilera’s memory had raised more than $38,000 as of December 2 to support her family. Organizers said the page will remain open for continued contributions. Funeral arrangements are pending.

Authorities continue to investigate Aguilera’s death and await findings from the medical examiner.
