  • The #1 trending dog name in Austin is Dot, up an astounding 575%.
  • The #1 trending cat name is Minnie, with a 580% increase.
  • Cartoon-inspired names like Bandit (+363%), Chloe (+180%), and Winnie (+141%) are on the rise.
  • Southern cultural references are making a comeback with Opie (from The Andy Griffith Show) and Delta (from Tanya Tucker’s Delta Dawn), both increasing by 291%.

National Trends in Pet Names

The report also revealed nationwide naming trends:

  • Bluey, the beloved cartoon character, was the top trending name overall, up 58% for dogs and 122% for cats.
  • Food-inspired names like Calzone, Chive, and Provolone tied for top trending dog names, each up 211%.
  • Sports stars and pop culture icons continue to inspire, with Taylor Swift (+461% for dogs, +459% for cats) and basketball phenom Wemby (+127%) leading the charge.

Methodology

Rover analyzed millions of user-submitted pet names between September and October 2024. The rankings highlight year-over-year growth, emphasizing Austin’s unique trends alongside national favorites.
