Texas Original, a state-based medical marijuana company, has opened a new 75,000-square-foot facility in Bastrop, southeast of Austin, nearly ten times the size of its previous 7,700-square-foot headquarters, FOX7 reported.

The Bastrop campus serves as a comprehensive hub for the company’s operations, featuring a hybrid greenhouse, extraction and processing labs, testing facilities, and areas dedicated to packaging, dispensing, and statewide distribution.

“This facility represents the future of medical cannabis in Texas,” said Nico Richardson, CEO of Texas Original. “Our expanded operations in Bastrop allow us to serve even more patients across the state, and with the quality expected from Texas Original. As legislative changes under House Bill 46 create opportunities for more Texans to access medical cannabis, we’re ready to meet that need.”

The expansion comes as Texas recently passed House Bill 46, which broadens the state’s medical cannabis program.

The legislation extends access to hospice patients and individuals with chronic pain, introduces new delivery methods such as aerosol and vapor products, and raises the number of licensed dispensaries statewide.

Texas first allowed low-THC medical marijuana prescriptions in 2015 for epilepsy patients. Over time, lawmakers have added qualifying conditions, and HB 46 further expands eligibility to individuals with traumatic brain injuries, Crohn’s disease, chronic pain, and terminal illnesses.

What Does This Mean For Patients?

With this expansion, Texas Original is positioned to serve an expanding patient base and comply with new regulatory standards. The Bastrop facility could play a pivotal role in increasing statewide access to medical cannabis, supporting more dispensaries, and driving growth in Texas’ emerging medical marijuana sector.
