Kate Cox, Texas Abortion Survivor, Leads State’s DNC Roll Call

Kate Cox, a Texas woman who had to flee the state after they denied her an abortion, led the state’s delegation during the Democratic National Convention’s ceremonial roll call of states.

Cox sued the state for permission to get an abortion after being diagnosed with a lethal fetal diagnosis. Doctors told her that if she didn’t get an abortion, she could have trouble getting pregnant again.

“My husband and I have always wanted a third, but when I got pregnant, doctors told us our baby would never survive and if I didn’t get an abortion, it would put a future pregnancy at risk,” Cox said. “But [former President Donald] Trump didn’t care, and because of his abortion bans, I had to flee my home.”

Cox spoke as Beyonce’s Texas Hold ‘Em was playing in the background.

“There’s nothing pro-family about abortion bans,” Cox told the convention hall. “There’s nothing pro-life about letting women suffer and even die.”

During the roll call, she happily announced she is pregnant again and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris.

“Today, because I found a way to access abortion care, I am pregnant again,” Cox said, placing her hand on her stomach. “And my baby is due in January, just in time to see Kamala Harris sworn in as president of the United States.”

Then, Cox, gave the microphone to Texas Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa, who said Texas is the “nation’s biggest battleground state” with 40 electoral votes. He announced 263 votes for Harris.

Cox is the second Texas woman to speak at the DNC about the state’s strict abortion ban. On Monday, Amanda Zurawski and her husband Josh, addressed the convention and talked about how he nearly died after doctors denied her proper care. She said she suffered permanent damage in her reproductive organs. Since then, they sued the state.

At the Convention, Vice President Kamala Harris vowed to sign a law protecting abortion access nationwide.
