Houston has a new at-large City Council member after attorney Alejandra Salinas won Saturday’s runoff election with more than 57% of the vote.

According to CW39, Salinas defeated former council member Dwight Boykins for the open At-Large Position 4 seat. Her campaign emphasized core city services, infrastructure improvements, and inclusion, relying on grassroots organizing and extensive block-walking across Houston.

Salinas said voters were looking for hope, accountability, and a City Hall that works for everyone, and she has indicated she is ready to begin work immediately once sworn in.

Click2Houston reported she received about 56% of early votes. Community Impact later reported preliminary totals of 21,314 votes for Salinas compared with 16,314 for Boykins.

Hoodline highlighted the contrasting approaches. While Salinas focused on affordable and reliable city services, safer neighborhoods, and infrastructure, including trash and recycling pickup, Boykins campaigned on fiscal responsibility and support for vulnerable populations.

Final results will be confirmed after canvassing, but the winner will join City Council as Houston faces ongoing infrastructure and budget challenges.
