Vice President JD Vance became the latest Republican figure to comment on Rep. Jasmine Crockett’s newly announced U.S. Senate run, offering a blunt assessment of her candidacy during a Turning Point USA event.
According to The Latin Times, Vance said that “the record speaks for itself” when asked about Crockett’s decision to seek higher office.
Vance went on to criticize Crockett’s public image, adding, “She wants to be a senator, though her street girl persona is about as real as her nails,” as reported by The Latin Times.
His remarks place him among several high-profile Republicans who have openly mocked or criticized the Texas Democrat since she entered the race.
The reaction reflects a broader Republican strategy that views Crockett as a favorable opponent in a general election. As The Latin Times reported, GOP leaders including Sen. John Cornyn and President Donald Trump have described her candidacy as a “gift to Republicans,” arguing that her confrontational style could energize conservatives rather than swing voters.
Behind the scenes, Republicans have also worked to elevate Crockett’s profile in the Democratic primary. According to NOTUS, the National Republican Senatorial Committee promoted polling that showed Crockett leading other Democrats, a move the outlet said was part of a coordinated effort to encourage her run. Crockett herself acknowledged that favorable polls influenced her decision, saying, “The more I saw the poll results, I couldn’t ignore the trends that were clear,” NOTUS reported.
