‘Hell No, I Don’t’: McConaughey Wants More Information Before Trusting COVID-19 Child Vaccines

Matthew McConaughey, famous for his acting roles in “Dazed and Confused” and “Dallas Buyers Club” has recently taken a peculiar interest in being cast in a new role as Governor of Texas.

Although he has been teasing Texans with this idea for a while, last Tuesday on a prerecorded segment of the virtual New Year Dealbook conference, he said he would only seek office if he thought it was the best way for him to make a difference in the world, as reported by Bloomberg.

For McConaughey tackling a role in politics is no joke, which is why he said that there was a lot to think about before committing.

“Trust me, I’m spending a good amount of time deliberating and really working my mind, heart and spirit on the questions,” he said.

According to Bloomberg, he doesn’t identify as a Republican or a Democrat and criticizes extremists in both parties. “I think our country, state, needs to be aggressively centric now,” he said. “It’s a daring place to go, it’s a radical move right now.”

McConaughey claimed some of his positions are left-of-center and others are to the right. Then gave his thoughts on the recently enacted abortion law in Texas, saying it was too restrictive. He also suggested he was uncomfortable with vaccine mandates and the new Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine for kids. 

“Right now I’m not vaccinating mine, I’ll tell you that. I still want to find out more information,” McConaughey continued,  “I wanna trust in science but I think if there’s any kind of scam or conspiracy theory, hell no I don’t.”

McConaughey’s comments come a year before an election in which Governor Greg Abbott is seen as the leading contender and Beto O’Rourke is still a Democratic wildcard, since there has been no announcement of him running.

A poll published Nov. 5, conducted by the University of Texas and the Texas Tribune, showed that McConaughey had limited popularity among Texas voters, and in a hypothetical election against Abott and O’Rourke, he wouldn’t come out victorious.
