Priority Zip Codes for Mega-Vaccine Sites in Texas

Do you live in a COVID-19 high-risk zip code?

During the next three weeks at NRG Park, 126,000 people are expected to be vaccinated for the coronavirus with a first dose at the mega-site. A return is scheduled for the second dose.

The site will serve 6,000 per day seven days per week. 

Today with the help from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Houston and Harris County are prioritizing vaccinating residents in certain high-risk zip codes.

FEMA will be handling the costs of the vaccination equipment and personnel, and according to a press release by the Houston Health Department and Harris County Public Health, the vaccine prioritization zip codes come from “identified by positivity rate of COVID-19, underlying health condition, economic, and social data.”

“HCPH will be prioritizing areas where there have been COVID health disparities (using the CDC’s social vulnerability index and where data shows there are 1) increased COVID cases or deaths and/or COVID undertesting),” the news release states.

High-risk zip codes: 77022, 77029, 77032, 77078, 77087, 77093, 77502, 77504, 77506, 77587, 77011, 77012, 77015, 77016, 77020, 77026, 77028, 77033, 77037, 77038, 77039, 77048, 77086, 77091, 77503, 77060, 77080, 77099, 77013, 77014, 77036, 77050, 77051, 77076, 77090

If you don’t live in one of those zip-codes, remember you can still get vaccinated if you fit in one of these other categories below.

Priority 1 – People age 65 and older who live in a high-risk zip code,

Priority 2 – People age 65 years and older,

Priority 3 – People age 60-64 with underlying medical conditions who live in high risk zip codes, and

Priority 4 – People age 60-64 with underlying medical conditions.

According to the news release, “Harris County will utilize its current vaccination waitlist: https://vacstrac.hctx.net/landing or individuals can call 832-927-8787.”

Other areas of the state including Dallas County are in a partnership with FEMA, targeting residents in 17 ZIP codes.

Local news reported that FEMA-run sites will be administering the first-dose of the Pfizer vaccine and the county will administer second-dose the Moderna vaccine for those who received their first dose at Fair Park. 

The ZIP codes are: 75042, 75061, 75150, 75210, 75211, 75212, 75215, 75216, 75217, 75220, 75224, 75227, 75228, 75231, 75237, 75241, 75243

“This pandemic has exposed long-standing inequities in our communities that are the most vulnerable to disease,” said Sherri Onyiego, PhD, MD, Interim Local Health Authority for Harris County Public Health.

“We are one of just two or three in the nation that are distributing such a large number of vaccines,” Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo said in a Twitter video. 

Hidalgo called the collaboration and mega-site “good news” and “hope” for the area that was devastated greatly by the Texas blackout last week.

At this time there is not a FEMA-vaccine site in San Antonio or Ausin, only in Harris, Dallas and Tarrant Counties. Here are zip-codes in San Antonio hit the hardest by the virus.
