Abbott’s office has announced that the Governor tested positive for COVID-19, and at the moment, he is not experiencing any symptoms.
“The governor will isolate in the Governor’s Mansion and continue to test daily,” said Mark Miner, communications director for the governor. “Gov. Abbott is receiving Regeneron’s monoclonal antibody treatment. Governor Abbott is fully vaccinated against COVID-19, in good health, and currently experiencing no symptoms. Everyone that the governor has been in close contact with today has been notified. Texas first lady Cecilia Abbott tested negative.”
It was only last night that the Governor attended a 600-people GOP event at Heritage Ranch where almost no one wore a mask and social distancing was pretty much non-existent. According to his office, he had been taking a test daily, yet they didn’t confirm exactly when he might’ve gotten infected.
The news comes in the middle of Abbott’s crusade against safety measures regarding COVID, including mask mandates. He had even said that taking safety measures against COVID-19 was a matter of personal responsibility, “We must rely on personal responsibility, not gov’t mandates,” He recently tweeted. “Texans will decide for themselves whether they’ll wear masks & open businesses. Vaccines are the best defense & will always remain voluntary.”
As to be expected, social media exploded with many outraged reactions at the Governor, who has done little to stop the spread of the virus in Texas.
At RA News we’ve compiled a round-up of some of the most notorious reactions.
