Texas is facing one of the worst energy crises in the country right now. Over 4 million people were left without power or heat, all while the state endures one of its worst winters ever, with record-low freezing temperatures lashing all across Texas.
The Electric Reliability Council of Texas is saying they’re not sure when power will be completely restored.
State Representative Jeff Leach has been active in expressing his frustration over the devastating incident, stating that people in his district have been out of power for over 36 hours. He tweeted a statement demanding answers from ERCOT, COSERV, and ONCOR.
Likewise, Speaker of the House Dade Phelan has already tweeted a press release calling on the House State Affairs and Energy Resources Committees to convene a joint hearing on Feb. 25 about the factors that led to sustained power outages across Texas.
Rep. Matt Krause called out Senator John Cornyn for not taking action sooner and requested more power generators to be put to work in order to end the outage.
Others are criticizing ERCOT’s lack of communication with the public throughout these hard times, like Rep. Giovanni Capriglione:
Rep. James Talarico chose some harsh words to describe the state’s current situation, saying that if Texas were a country, we would call it a failed state:
Former Rep. Poncho Nevarez expressed sadness over Gov. Abbot’s decision to turn the crisis into a political matter instead of focusing on helping people who are suffering.
Rep. Rafael Anchía called out the entire state for not investing in resilience enough for their power grid.
