Beto O’Rourke Promotes “Moral March for Democracy”

Voting rights advocates and Texas political leaders have organized a three-day march to fight against recent voter restriction efforts.

Among those involved is former Congressman Beto O’Rourke, whose political action committee, Powered By People, is promoting the event.

The hope is the march will nationalize Texas voter issues, pushing Congress to protect voter rights on the national level, curbing Republican-led efforts to restrict voting in Texas.

Senate Bill 1, which takes strides to tighten voting in Texas through ending nighttime voting hours, banning thrive-thru polling, and banning absentee ballots from being sent out without request, has recently been left in the wings as Texas Democrats broke quorum recently.

Named the Moral March for Democracy, the rally includes a 27-mile march from Georgetown to Austin in which participants hope to “urge the U.S. Senate and the White House to stop the attacks on democracy”. The march takes place from July 28th through July 31st.

O’Rourke plans to participate in the march for the entire distance.

“If you want to be in this fight and not just sitting on the sidelines, we need you to be in Austin on the 31st,” he said when interviewed by the Houston Chronicle.
