Did Your Texas Driver’s License or ID Card Just Expire? Don’t worry.

If the expiration date on your Texas driver’s license or ID card is nearing, don’t fret. While the state works to keep Texans safe under the declaration of disaster for COVID-19, the Texas Department of Transportation has temporarily extended the date of expiration for driver’s licenses and ID cards.

House Speaker Dennis Bonnen posted a letter from the Texas Department of Public Safety on Sunday via social media.

“The DPS considers a Texas issued card displaying an expired date valid if both the expiration date is on or after March 13, if the date is up to 60 days after the end of the State of Disaster.”

Local law enforcement agencies have been notified, said Sheri Gipson, the chief of Texas Department of Public Safety’s Driver License division.

The DPS announced last week that it was implementing additional sanitation practices at driver license offices.

In other news on the road, to improve supply delivery to grocery stores across Texas, Gov. Greg Abbott has waived some commercial trucking regulations

Abbott has also waived certain vehicle registration, titling, and parking placard regulations to allow Texans to avoid penalties and “reduce preventable in-person contact.”
