After School Shooting, Therapy Dogs Arrive at Uvalde To Provide Support.

Scout, a six-year-old Labrador, is providing support in Uvalde Civic Center for the shattered community after the school shooting.

On Wednesday, an 18-year-old man opened fire in the Robb Elementary School in Uvalde Texas, leaving 19 kids and two teachers dead.

Ever since, the conversation has focused on how to talk to the kids after a shooting, how to feel safe again, and how to deal with the mental health repercussions in parents and survivors.

In the midst of the shock and grief, 8 therapy dogs from San Antonio traveled to support the Uvalde community. They are at the Uvalde Civic Center according to KSAT.

Leigh Waldman, the head of the non-profit organization “Therapy Animals” that sends care teams, said that the dogs were an enormous help

Another dog group that arrived in Uvalde is called Canines 4 Christ. These are trained to accompany soldiers that are recovering from wounds, but Clair Blair, part of the team, thought it could provide light comfort to the community.

“They are taking a minute to say ‘hi’ and to love on the dogs and, of course, they’re very appreciative of us being out here for them”, Blair said to Koin News.
