John Cornyn Says VP Harris Is “Trump Reincarnate” For Supporting Border Wall

Just after Vice President Kamala Harris said she would revive a bipartisan bill that would support the construction of the border wall, Sen. John Cornyn said she was “Donald Trump reincarnate.”

Cornyn spoke at a Round Rock Chamber of Commerce luncheon, where he criticized Harris’ flip-flops on different issues, including the border.

“What’s so disturbing to me is that she seems to take diametrically opposed positions depending on which office she’s running for,” Cornyn said. “And now, you would think she was Donald Trump reincarnate when it comes to the border.”

Harris previously expressed her intentions to revive a bipartisan border security bill. This bill included provisions like more money for asylum lawyers and judges, it allowed the President to shut down the border, and also it required hundreds of millions of dollars of unspent funds to be used to continue building a wall on the border. The bill was killed by Republicans.

“Donald Trump believes a border deal would hurt his campaign, so he ordered his allies in Congress to kill the deal,” Harris said in her presidential nomination acceptance speech last week. “Well, I refuse to play politics with our security. And here is my pledge to you: As president, I will bring back the bipartisan border security bill that he killed, and I will sign it into law.”

The money destined to the construction of the border wall would be $650 million, far less from the $18 billion Trump requested in 2018.

Harris has tried to distance herself from President Joe Biden’s border policies, which have been heavily criticized.

“Kamala Harris can run but can’t hide,” Cornyn said. “I don’t know how you can be part of an administration for the last 3½ years, or four years, and claim not to be associated with the policies of that administration.”

Cornyn also added that the “honeymoon”period Harris enjoyed after Biden ended his candidacy in July will likely come to an end. She said he and his GOP allies will hammer Harris on what he called her “magnificent flip-flop from her earlier positions” since her failed bid for the Democratic nomination in 2022.

Harris has also vowed to increase the number of Border Patrol agents and tougher migration policies, however, she still differs from Trump’s positions, opposing family separation and mass deportations.
