Mexican Mother’s Day is celebrated annually on May 10, just one day before Mother’s Day in the United States, which falls on Sunday this year.
The holiday became official in 1914 and gained national prominence after Rafael Alducin, an editor for Excélsior in Mexico, published an article in 1922 advocating for a day to honor mothers, according to the Mexico City-based newspaper.
Much like in the U.S., mothers in Mexico are celebrated with flowers, gifts, and songs, as a way for families to show appreciation, as reported by the Houston Chronicle.
