Musk Leaves California Over Gender Identity Law, Heads To Texas

Elon Musk announced his plans to move the headquarters of two of his companies, SpaceX and the social media platform X from California to Texas. In his decision, he cited a law protecting a child’s gender identity.

In a tweet, Musk said a law that restricts schools from requiring staff to disclose a child’s gender identity to anyone, including parents, as the “final straw” for making his decision to move his companies out of California. He also said that he was tired of “dodging gangs of violent drug addicts just to get in and out of the building.”

The billionaire previously relocated Tesla’s headquarters to Texas in 2021 and is a resident of the state, benefiting from Texas’s lack of state income tax.

As an answer criticizing Californias’ law, he posted what appears to be an AI generated image of him with a cowboy hat with the caption: “Stay away from my kids. We’re going to Texas.”

A user, however, noted that his kids usually want to stay away from him, as His daughter, Vivian Jenna Wilson, legally changed her name and gender in 2022, stating that she didn’t want to to be related to musk in “any way, shape or form.” Other sources have stated that he has complicated relations with his children.

The announcement coincides with Musk’s formal endorsement of Donald Trump for president, following an assassination attempt on Trump. The Wall Street Journal reported that Musk would be directing $45 million a month towards Trump’s campaign, a claim Musk indirectly confirmed with a meme on X, suggesting some truth to the report.
