Republican House Candidate Arrested For DWI And Weapon Charge In San Antonio

The Republican candidate for Texas House District 117 was arrested by San Antonio police this week after a crash along a San Antonio highway.

KSAT reports that Ben Mostyn, 45, was charged Wednesday with driving while intoxicated and unlawfully carrying a weapon. He was taken into custody around 12:30 a.m. after a crash in the 900 block of I-10 West and is scheduled to be arraigned on July 5.

Mostyn is set to face Democrat Rep. Philip Cortez, who has represented HD 117 since 2012.

Mostyn ran unopposed in the March Republican primary.

KSAT tried to reach Mostyn for comment but received no response.

According to his website, Mostyn is an Army veteran who has worked as an engineer, a consultant, and an actor.

His website also states that he believes in school choice and in tougher laws to put criminals “behind bars where they belong.”
