Why Are Newcomers Regretting Their Move To Texas?

Many Californians and New Yorkers moved to Texas during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, hoping for a cheaper way of life. Now many of the newcomers regret their decision.

Thanks to a different arrangement of factors Texas is not that attractive anymore for newcomers, after all, last year Texas was ranked as the worst state for living. Here are some of the reasons many people regret moving to Texas, according to a report by GOBankingRates.

Weather

One of the biggest downsides to living in Texas is the extreme weather. Summers can be very hot, and in the winter, storms can cause massive shortages and damage. The state can also experience devastating events such as hurricanes, tornadoes, and flash floods.

Education

While public education in Texas is not terrible, many school districts in the state are struggling with immense deficits, and some of them have low educational outcomes. In addition, Governor Abbott is pushing a school voucher proposal that could further underfund schools.

“Families moving to Texas with school-aged children might find themselves disappointed with the public education options available in their chosen communities, leading to additional stress and potential relocation within the state,” Jolean Olson, a real estate expert, told GOBankingRates.

Home Prices and Property Taxes

While Texas has lower home prices than other states, prices are rising as more people move to the state. Now, people who moved to Texas for an affordable lifestyle are finding that housing prices in Texas are not so cheap anymore.

Texas also has the seventh highest property taxes in the U.S., making housing less affordable.

In addition, a study conducted by CNBC that ranked Texas as the worst state to live in said that Texas has a low number of primary care physicians, a high crime rate, and its status as a business-focused state has declined.
