Texas Gov. Greg Abbott held a press conference Wednesday, May 6, 2020 to update Texans on his plan to reopen the state in an effort to revitalize the economy amidst the coronavirus crisis. In phase two of reopening the state, Abbott will allow partial reopening of salons and barbershops, and will allow graduation commencements to begin Friday, May 8. Gyms will be allowed to reopen on May 18.
Last week, in phase one of partially reopening the Texas economy, Gov. Abbott loosened restrictions on retail stores, beaches, restaurant, malls and movie theaters. Abbott has said his decisions are based on the state’s coronavirus infection and hospitalization rates.
