Uvalde Police Warns Community About “Disturbing” Social Media Threats To Schools

The Uvalde Police Department said it will tighten security in the city’s school campuses in response to a series of “disturbing” posts on social media.

As reported by the San Antonio Express-News, Uvalde PD said it was investigating social media posts targeting schools within the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District.

“We are working closely with the Uvalde CISD Police Department to address this matter,” Police Chief Homer Delgado wrote in a Facebook post. “As an extra precaution, we will be providing additional patrols throughout Uvalde CISD campuses to ensure the safety of our students and staff.”

Despite the warnings, the department did not provide more details about the “disturbing” social media posts, however, it said it will provide updates as they become available. The Facebook post also encouraged citizens to reach the police department if they have information on the matter.

These warnings come the same week as a student in Uvalde was caught at school with a BB gun in his backpack on Monday. Uvalde CISD Superintendent Ashley Chohlis said the third-grader was found with the weapon during a bus pickup. She added that the BB gun was fashioned to look like a handgun and that the student pointed it at another student.

Chohlis also said the gun was unloaded and belonged to the student’s brother.

“We strongly encourage parents to have open, honest conversations with their child(ren) about making responsible choices and the potential outcomes of their actions,” she said in a statement. “Your guidance is crucial in this process.”

On May 24, 2022, an 18-year-old gunman entered Robb Elementary School in Uvalde with an assault-style rifle, shooting and killing 19 students and two teachers. It was the deadliest school shooting in Texas history.
