Renting with a pet can be a challenge, but for Texans, the odds are in their favor. According to a new analysis by Dog Friendly Co, which reviewed Zillow listings across all 50 states, Texas ranks as the second most pet-friendly state in the country. With 72.1% of rental properties welcoming all pets, renters with four-legged companions have more flexibility than in most other states.
In raw numbers, Texas leads the pack with 123,212 pet-friendly rental listings out of 170,858 total—more than any other state. That means Texans have not only a high percentage of accommodating landlords but also the largest overall supply of pet-welcoming homes, as reported by cw33. Colorado tops the list by percentage, with 75.2% of rentals allowing pets, while North Carolina, Minnesota, and Georgia round out the top five.
On the flip side, renters with pets may face significant difficulties in states like Hawaii, where only 16.3% of listings accept animals, or Alaska and West Virginia, both below 30%. The contrast highlights how location can drastically shape rental options for pet owners, and puts Texas in a strong position for those looking to keep their furry companions by their side.
