BETO O’Rourke: At a Time Of Rising Crime In Texas Abbott Is Taking Officers Off The Streets

Beto O’Rourke called attention to another flaw in Gov. Greg Abbott’s border mission in a Thursday tweet, focusing on Guard members who also serve as law enforcement officers.

Guard leadership deployed these troops despite requests from law enforcement superiors to allow their troops to continue serving as peace officers, citing critical manpower shortages.

All of the interviewed soldiers explained they do not trust their commands to handle these concerns, despite assurances from leadership, and feel the lack of support was a systematic failure of the border deployment.

These troops continue to view themselves as “political pawns” for Abbott’s re-election ambitions.
