San Antonio, Bexar County to Shelter-in-Place

Effective at 11:59 tonight, San Antonio and Bexar County will be under stay-at-home orders in hopes to slow the spread of COVID-19. The orders require San Antonio residents to remain home, except when securing health care, purchasing food and basic supplies, exercising outdoors, or working to provide these basic services to the public.

All public and private gatherings consisting of anyone other than a person’s own household or family are prohibited.

Mayor Ron Nirenberg and County Judge Nelson Wolff also ordered all businesses to close other than allowing employees to work from home, maintaining security and maintenance of the business’ property and facilitating information technology services that allow employees to work from home.

“As you know, and as we expected, the number of positive cases is growing. We need to take additional steps now to slow the spread. The actions I announced today can be summed up as short-term pain in exchange for long-term benefit,” Nirenberg said.

Only businesses and organizations that are providing essential services and products to the public will be allowed to continue to operate. The lists of essential services are long. The city’s order is here, and the county order is here. The county is informing the public at this website.
