Texas Just Ranked Number 1 For Having The Worst Drivers In The U.S.

According to a report by Forbes Advisor, Texas is the state with the worst drivers in the U.S. The state ranked with a score of 100 out of 100 – all the other states got a score lower than 90.

The study scored every state based on six metrics, five of them are a three-year average of fatal accidents. This means that Texas is the state with the most deaths related to transit accidents.

Texas is the second worst state in fatal car accidents involving a drowsy driver, and fatal car accidents involving drivers who were driving the wrong way on a one way-street. Also, Texas is the third state with the highest number of drunk drivers involved in fatal accidents.

According to a report by the Texas Department of Transportation, in 2021, one crash occurred every 57 seconds and one person was killed every two hours with 57 minutes. In this year 4,418 people were killed in traffic accidents.

The metrics used by Forbes Advisor were:

·   Number of drunk drivers (BAC of 0.08+) involved in fatal car accidents per 100,000 licensed drivers.

·   Number of fatal car accidents involving a distracted driver per 100,000 licensed drivers.

·   Number of fatal car accidents involving a drowsy driver per 100,000 licensed drivers.

·   Number of fatal car accidents involving a driver who was driving the wrong way on a one-way street or on the wrong side of the road per 100,000 licensed drivers.

·   Number of fatal car accidents involving a driver who failed to obey traffic signs, traffic signals or a traffic officer per 100,000 licensed drivers.

·   Number of drivers who looked at a phone per mile.

The first five used data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, using an average from 2018 to 2020. The last metric used data from Arity until 2023.
