CNN is reporting a major explosion in downtown Fort Worth, Texas today. The Dallas Morning News is reporting that eleven people were taken to the hospital and that the explosion likely occurred because of a gas leak at the Sandman Signature Hotel.
Meanwhile, in a series of tweets, the Fort Worth Fire Department (FWFD) and Fort Worth Police Department (FWPD) have posted several tweets updating the public. The initial tweet, posted earlier today, urged residents to avoid the downtown area and assured that Public Information Officers (PIOs) were on the scene.
The situation prompted an immediate response from the FWFD, along with multiple other emergency responders. Details surrounding the incident remain scarce, with the PIOs promising to share more information as soon as it can be confirmed.
As of the latest update at 4:15 PM, the media staging area for the major incident has been established in front of the large yellow sculpture known as the Tabachin Ribbon, located at 1000 Throckmorton St. in front of the Municipal Court. PIOs are relocating to this area, and members of the media are encouraged to gather there for official updates on the ongoing situation. The hashtag #FWDowntownAlert is being used to disseminate information.
At 4:25 PM, another update revealed that the family reunification area for those involved in the incident is set up at Sundance Square. If you are looking for a loved one or need more information, you are urged to go to Sundance Square located at 420 Main Street.
The FWFD continues to emphasize that residents should avoid the downtown area until further notice. The nature of the incident, casualties, or other relevant details have not yet been disclosed.
Authorities are working diligently to provide timely and accurate information to the public, and they appreciate the cooperation and understanding of the community during this challenging time.
