The 2025-26 high school basketball season continued to gain momentum last week as teams across Texas took to the court for non-district action and early-season tests.

According to scoreboard coverage from Texas boys basketball listings, Friday, Dec. 12 featured a slate of games with lopsided and competitive results statewide. Local programs showed scoring versatility and depth as teams worked to build chemistry ahead of district play. Highlights from that night’s results included Abilene blowing out Jim Ned 74-35, Aledo topping Lamar 60-42, and Austin cruising past Cedar Creek 86-45, among many other matchups. These results are part of a larger roster of scores released for Dec. 12.

Earlier in the week, Dec. 11 scores included wins by Gladewater over Pittsburg 67-52 and Van Vleck taking down Columbia 64-47, while Tyler HEAT defeated Pine Tree 47-54. Other competitive games saw Wall defeat Springtown 60-26 and Mexia defeat Lake Belton 66-57.

These matchups, and dozens of others reported across the state, helped teams sharpen rotations and gain confidence heading into the holiday period.

Games This Week – Dec. 15 to Dec. 18, 2025

Basketball action picked right back up this week, with teams continuing non-district play and jockeying for positioning before winter break.

On Tuesday, Dec. 16, several competitive games were reported statewide. Abilene defeated Wall 71-57 as part of the mid-week slate, while Alamo Heights beat Boerne-Champion 64-58. Albany rode a big scoring night to beat Comanche 80-37, and Andress powered past Ysleta 71-49. Smaller programs also posted strong wins, including Bay City over Palacios 84-60 and Benbrook topping Venus 66-38.

In addition to the scores listed above, Tuesday’s games featured youth movement and breakout performances across classifications, indicating that several teams could be ones to watch once district schedules kick in.

Local reporting from the Midland-Odessa area also highlighted December 15-16 games in that region. Legacy pulled out a 58-48 win over Abilene Wylie, and Forsan dominated Crane 78-38 behind big nights from Jayce Spivey and Matthew Blakeney. On the girls’ side, Legacy defeated Abilene Cooper 56-28, and Midland High posted a 50-24 win over Fort Stockton. Other notable matchups included a Top 5 clash in that area, where Midland Christian beat Seminole 45-44 in overtime.

Through today, Thursday, Dec. 18, the season’s non-district stretch continues, with a spread of scheduled games for teams across classifications. According to current listings, Thursday’s schedule includes at least two dozen matchups statewide, including games like Salado vs. Killeen, Henrietta vs. Canyon Lake, and others.

What’s Coming Next: The Rest of December

As the calendar turns toward the end of the month, teams will wrap up their non-district schedules and begin preparing for district play, which typically starts late in December or just after the New Year.

Among marquee upcoming matchups and events to watch:

  • Numerous programs will participate in holiday tournaments and showcases between Dec. 19 and Dec. 31, offering chances for teams to face out-of-district competition before district slate opens.
  • Several ranked and rising teams: West Plains and Canyon, both ranked in the Class 4A Top 20 with records above .500, are scheduled to begin District 4-4A play (West Plains hosting Hereford and Canyon hosting Perryton) starting Dec. 22, followed by tournament participation in events like the Tatum Tough Tournament from Dec. 29-31.
  • As holiday breaks approach, programs often schedule showcase games that can serve as momentum builders heading into district competition.
