A 13-year-old accused of fatally shooting his 8-year-old brother, Daniel Casares, will remain in detention, a Bexar County juvenile court judge ruled Thursday, KSAT reported. Police said the shooting on July 25 was accidental while the teen was handling a gun.

Despite officials noting good behavior in detention and his lawyer supporting release, state attorneys cited past violations, including breaking curfew and contacting children under a “no contact” order. Judge Erik Reynolds said the teen must remain detained “due to his not allowing himself to be adequately supervised.”

His next hearing is Dec. 29, with a docket setting for the manslaughter charge on Jan. 13, 2026.
