It is the responsibility of adults in our society to take care of children – their safety, health and education. In fact, Article 7 of the Texas Constitution expressly mandates the Legislature to provide a free statewide public education system. But State Senator Don Huffines (R-Dallas) has either forgotten his responsibility or worse.
“That is the most selfish thing I have ever heard!” were the words that Huffines repeatedly screamed at students he visited to talk about education. When the children voiced their concern about funding being cut for their public schools and diverted to private and charter schools, Huffines became irate.

Maybe Don Huffines is a little defensive about his record. He co-sponsored legislation to appropriate state funds for private school vouchers as well as legislation to appropriate public funds for charter schools. Huffines has repeatedly voted for the state to subsidize expensive private school education at the expense of Texas public schools.
Don Huffines can yell at school kids all day long, but it won’t change his record of selling out their education.
