Texas politicians and candidates vying for statewide office have filed their final campaign finance reports ahead of the November 6 election. Here’s how much money some candidates in statewide races have raised:
In the gubernatorial race, Governor Greg Abbott’s campaign has raised $3.57 million and spent $10.9 million from September 28 to October 27. During the July 1 to September 27 filing period, Abbott raised $5.7 million and spent $7.3 million. Abbott still has plenty of money to spend in the final week before the election, with his latest filing showing he has $19.7 million cash on hand.
Abbott’s Democratic opponent Lupe Valdez raised $361,252 during the latest filing period, meaning Abbott raised nearly 10 times the funds she raised. Valdez spent $579,753 and has $60,237 cash on hand for the homestretch. During the July 1 to September 27 filing period, Valdez raised $335,765 and spent $208,670.
In the race for lieutenant governor, Republican incumbent Dan Patrick raised $1.61 million and spent a combined $1.24 million from both his PAC and campaign, according to his most recent campaign filing. Patrick has $8.83 million on hand between his PAC and campaign with $215,000 in outstanding loans. Patrick’s previous filing from July 1 to September 27 shows he raised $1.59 million, spent $7.7 million and had $8.17 million in cash on hand.
Patrick’s Democratic challenger Michael Collier raised $169,567 and spent $180,266 from September 28 to October 27. During the July 1 to September 27 filing period, Collier raised $395,903 and spent $262,616. He currently has $231,550 cash on hand for the final week of the campaign. That’s less money than Collier raised previously from February 25 to June 30, where he raised $266,308. During that filing period, Collier spent $222,672.
In the race for attorney general, Republican incumbent Ken Paxton raised $2.3 million, spent $2.86 million, and has $2.9 million in cash on hand from September 28 to October 27. During the filing period from July 1 to September 27, Paxton raised $487,794, spent $3.2 million and has $4.3 million in cash on hand.
Paxton’s Democratic challenger Justin Nelson raised $1.08 million, spent $3.36 million, and has $447,048 in cash on hand, according to his eight day filing. That same filing reports Nelson has $1.5 million in outstanding loans. In the filing period from July 1 to September 27, Nelson raised $1.1 million, spent $489,375 and had $1.74 million in cash on hand. In that filing, he reported an outstanding loan of $500,000.
Candidates and officeholders will file their next campaign finance reports in early January 2019, reflecting contributions and expenditures between October 28 and December 31, 2018.
