With the upcoming cold front reaching Texas between late Saturday and early Sunday, extreme temperatures originating from the Arctic blast will impact the state of Texas.
“Texans might once again wake up to snow-covered yards this January,” the Austin American-Statesman reported. Unlike what earlier forecasters had indicated, claiming that any chances of snow were significantly low.
The Arctic blast is ushering in subzero temperatures across parts of the state, potentially delivering the coldest weather of the season as Siberian air moves eastward.
While this cold front advances across the state, Texans should be ready to face it by being aware of the extreme conditions and how to manage them.
To stay safe, we encourage everyone who might be affected by the drastic change in weather to dress in layers: Wearing multiple layers of clothing, including thermal or moisture-wicking fabrics, will keep you warm.
Insulate your home: Seal gaps around windows and doors with weatherstripping to keep cold air out and warm air in.
Protect pipes: During freezing temperatures, pipes are at risk of freezing and bursting. Insulate exposed pipes and let faucets drip slightly to prevent freezing.
Keep pets safe: Bring outdoor pets inside during extreme cold. If that’s not possible, provide them with warm shelter, and ensure they have access to water that isn’t frozen.
Prepare for power outages: Have an emergency kit on hand with flashlights, batteries, blankets and non-perishable food.
Stay informed: Regularly check weather forecasts and warnings, especially if snow, ice, or freezing rain is expected.

Houston area
- Lows: 25 to 35 degrees
- Highs: 40 to 50 degrees (Houston also faces a chance for snow on Tuesday.)

- Lows: 10 to 20 degrees
- Highs: 25 to 40 degrees
San Antonio area
- Lows: 25 to 35 degrees
- Highs: 35 to 50 degrees
