H-E-B is turning up the volume in Austin with the launch of a new live music series aimed at both celebrating the city’s rich musical heritage and supporting local artists in need. The series, called “True Texas Tunes,” will debut at the grocery chain’s newly renovated South Congress location, with all proceeds benefiting HOME (Housing Opportunities for Musicians and Entertainers), a nonprofit focused on supporting aging Austin-area musicians.
The first show is set to kick off on May 17 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a performance by Marcia Ball’s Boogie Trinity, launching a monthly series that will continue on the third Saturday of each month. The rooftop of the sleek, multi-story SoCo H-E-B, which reopened in December after a major overhaul, will serve as the backdrop for the performances, bringing a fresh kind of rhythm to weekend grocery runs, as reported by San Antonio Express-News.
“Austin is the Live Music Capital of the World, and South Congress has long been the heart of our city’s vibrant music scene,” said Heidi Anderson, H-E-B’s senior director of public affairs. “We’re proud to launch this wonderful series at our new SoCo H-E-B.”
HOME, the nonprofit partner behind the booking of local talent, works to ease housing challenges for aging musicians in the Austin area. The lineup promises to be a showcase of local talent, including acts like Floyd Domino, Midnight Snack, and Sister Golden Hair. In true Austin fashion, the performances will be paired with BBQ and a laid-back community vibe, offering a blend of music and mission in one of the city’s most iconic neighborhoods.
