Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) is facing backlash after reportedly making an apparent threat against right-wing commentator Tucker Carlson.
The controversy erupted following an interview with British journalist Steven Edginton of GB News, during which Crenshaw harshly criticized Carlson’s stance on U.S. funding for Ukraine.
During the interview, Edginton brought up Carlson’s argument that the U.S. should prioritize domestic issues over sending financial aid abroad. Crenshaw dismissed Carlson’s views, saying, “Tucker doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Tucker likes to visit Moscow and talk about how great the grocery stores are, so I don’t really take his advice very seriously.”
After the interview, Edginton asked Crenshaw if he had ever met Carlson. According to Edginton, Crenshaw responded, “I would kill him if I saw him.” The journalist initially laughed off the comment, but Crenshaw reportedly doubled down, saying, “No, seriously, I would kill him.”
Video of the exchange was posted on X (formerly Twitter) by GB News but was later deleted. However, the clip circulated widely, drawing immediate criticism from right-wing figures and prompting Crenshaw to deny making the threat.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) publicly questioned Crenshaw on X, asking whether he had threatened “my friend” Carlson. Crenshaw responded with a dismissive, “lol, no.” However, conservative figures, including The Federalist CEO Sean Davis, pointed out the existence of the now-deleted video. “You know there’s video of you saying otherwise, right?” Davis responded.
Carlson himself weighed in, addressing Crenshaw directly: “Why don’t you come sit for an interview and we’ll see how you do? I’ll send you my address.”
According to Daily Beast, Crenshaw’s office has yet to issue an official statement on the matter. Whether Crenshaw will engage with Carlson further or attempt to move past the uproar remains to be seen.
