Houston Attorney Tony Buzbee Accused Of ‘Extortion Scheme’

Houston attorney Tony Buzbee, widely recognized for representing over 100 individuals in a high-profile lawsuit against music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, now faces legal trouble of his own.

According to court documents, a lawsuit filed in Los Angeles County Court by an unnamed plaintiff identified only as “John Doe,” accuses Buzbee and his firm of orchestrating a scheme to extort prominent figures by fabricating allegations of sexual assault, including claims involving minors.

As first reported by The Houston Chronicle, the lawsuit alleges that Buzbee relies on a calculated strategy to pressure high-profile individuals. According to the plaintiff, this involves inventing false claims, issuing demand letters seeking financial settlements, and leveraging media attention to escalate public scrutiny if demands are not met. The complaint further links these alleged practices to individuals connected to Combs.

Attorneys from Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, LLP, representing the plaintiff, assert that Buzbee’s actions are aimed at financing a “lavish lifestyle” and have labeled his tactics as malicious and without merit.

Buzbee has denied the claims, calling the lawsuit “frivolous” and “laughable.” Speaking to the Houston Chronicle, he described the lawsuit as an attempt to intimidate both him and the survivors he represents.

“We won’t allow the powerful and their high-dollar lawyers to intimidate or silence sexual assault survivors,” Buzbee said. “It is obvious this lawsuit is an aggressive attempt to silence me and ultimately my clients. That effort is a gross miscalculation. I am a U.S. Marine. I won’t be silenced or intimidated.”

Buzbee stated that his firm’s actions were standard legal procedure. He noted that demand letters sent on behalf of clients included no threats or requests for financial compensation. Instead, they sought confidential mediation before the potential filing of lawsuits.
