In Latest Attempt to Undermine the Election Outcome, Trump Pressures Abbott to Add 2020 Election Audit on 3rd Special Session

In what seems to be a last attempt to challenge the electoral outcome, Former President Donald Trump has sent an open letter to Governor Greg Abbott, urging him to add a “Forensic Audit” to the 3rd Special Session’s agenda.

Despite having won Texas in the 2020 election, Trump continues to claim widespread fraud, even after none of his claims have been accompanied by evidence.

“Governor Abbott, we need a Forensic Audit of the 2020 Election added to the call. We’re quickly running out of time and it must be done this week. Texans know voting fraud occurred in some of their counties. Let’s get to the bottom of the 2020 Presidential Election Scam!” the letter reads.

The letter comes as the former president’s supporters have been pushing for audits and reviews of areas he won by blowout margins in hopes of unearthing fraud. An NBC News review earlier this week found a push to revisit November’s results is underway or being called for in at least nine counties Trump won by more than 24 points.

“Despite my big win in Texas, I hear Texans want an election audit!” Trump wrote. “You know your fellow Texans have big questions about the November 2020 Election.”

Trump, who has been banned from social media for spreading fake news and hate speech, keeps insisting the election was rigged and is now pushing for a GOP-authored bill that would allow party officials to request audits of their county’s 2020 election results and also set up a process for future reviews.

According to the Dallas Morning News, in states where the Republican made claims of fraud, more than 80 judges, some of whom he appointed, tossed out the allegations as utterly baseless. Trump’s own Justice Department said it had no evidence of widespread voter fraud. In Texas, a top election official called the 2020 election “smooth and secure.”

“Texas needs you to act now,” Trump wrote to Abbott, who needs the former President’s blessing as his last resource for reelection in 2022.
