Governor Greg Abbott took to Twitter on Monday to announce the reopening of the Texas Capitol in Austin on January 4th.
According to a press release from the Office of the Governor health and safety protocols have been put in place to allow for the Capitol’s reopening.
It further mentions that preparations to safely conduct business in the Texas House and Senate are ongoing, with each chamber set to vote on their respective rules at the start of the legislative session.
While the capitol building has been closed since the beginning of the pandemic, the capitol grounds opened last week.
As Austin is facing yet another spike in cases, understanding how legislators will conduct the session as well as managing the public’s presence inside may be a moving target.
