In the wake of former President Donald Trump’s conviction, Texas officials have been quick to condemn or praise the decision; others, however, have released some questionable statements. So here are some of the most random reactions to the news that Trump is a convicted felon.
Like all GOP leaders in Texas, U.S. Senator Cruz called the whole process a “sham trial” and that it was all about politics. However, in the 46-second video he uploaded to X/Twitter, he didn’t seem troubled by Trump’s conviction, and used almost half of the video to promote his podcast.
Rep. Tom Oliverson, Republican caucus chairman, seemed to admit that Trump is indeed a felon by retweeting a mediocre AI-generated image of Trump depicting him as an outlaw with the text: “The first outlaw president.”
He also said he would play guitar in his honor.
On the Democratic side, most democrats certainly applaud the decision, but Rep. Gene Wu was having a good time, by tweeting “this has to be the most expensive 30 seconds of sex in human history.” In the case, Trump allegedly had sex with a porn star and bought her silence. Trump has denied all of this.
Other Texas officials remain silent. House Speaker Dade Phelan hasn’t posted anything on Twitter. He has his reasons to be angry at Trump for endorsing his primary opponent in a race that nearly cost him his political life.
With the Trump case, we have certainly seen some of the most horrific and hilarious statements from politicians in what seems to be one of the most surreal moments in the country.
