Lisa Luby Ryan doesn't listen to Texans

First-time Texas House candidate Lisa Luby Ryan hasn’t even been elected yet,  but she’s playing the campaign money game like a career politician. Luby Ryan has heard her special interest campaign contributors loud and clear, but can we trust her to listen to us?
In her first run for House District 114 in Dallas, Luby Ryan has taken more than $200,000 from political action committees (PACs) and special interest groups, and has leveraged her own special Ryan connection to the campaign. Big-time political player George “Brint” Ryan (no relation) is not only her top donor, he is serving as her campaign treasurer.  Brint Ryan has personally and via his PAC pumped $50,000 into Luby Ryan’s campaign.
Brint Ryan is a Texas political insider who has made a fortune helping clients game the tax system. He is the force behind Ryan Texas PAC, a special interest group that has contributed more than $4.5 million towards campaigns over the past decade, with Ryan putting in more than $1.1 million of his own money in just the last three years.
Anti-consumer and party special interest groups have also donated a significant amount to Luby Ryan’s campaign, estimating for more than half of her total campaign contributions.
 

As Texans know all too well, money can have a large influence in decision making for elected officials, and that’s exactly what special interest groups and PACs count on when they contribute to political campaigns. When these groups help further Lisa Luby Ryan’s run as a politician, they will expect her to return the favor by voting their way in Austin. And too often the public loses.
We won’t get the property tax relief we need as long as the corporations are getting their tax cuts first. We won’t get better schools if the privatization interests still give millions to legislators. We won’t get the consumer protection we deserve when it comes to insurance, utilities and corporations if policymakers are seduced by big campaign cash.
As long as the business lobbyists have their deals and willing politicians like Lisa Luby Ryan, public officials won’t vote in favor of their constituents. We need honest government and real transparency. We need to Reform Austin.
