Today is the last day of early voting in Texas ahead of Election Day next week. If you are still thinking about voting early, you just need an ID and a polling location.
Anyone who is registered to vote can vote early in Texas. You can check whether you’re registered to vote at the VoteTexas.gov website. Most early voting sites will close at 7 p.m., however Dallas county has extended its voting hours and polls will stay open until 9 p.m. today. To vote, you’ll need to bring one of the seven accepted identifications. These documents are a Texas Driver’s license, a Texas Election Identification Certificate, state Personal Identification Card, a handgun license, a U.S. Military ID, a U.S. citizenship certificate or a passport.
You can locate your nearest polling place on VoteTexas.gov website in the “Voting in Person” section. You can enter your name, county, date of birth, and ZIP code to find your nearest polling place.
According to Kxan, this year approximately 43% of Texans have voted early, down from 57% in the last presidential election. It is still difficult to compare this year from last one, as in 2020 there were still strong Covid-19 restrictions. Overall, 66.73% of registered voters in Texas casted a ballot in 2020.
So far, 8,101,339 votes have been cast. Harris county has reported the highest number of votes, with almost 1.1 million. This number is followed by Tarrant County with almost 600,000 and Dallas and Bexar, both with more than 500,000,
However, five counties have surpassed 60% turnout so far, with King County at 61.21% followed by Kendall County at 60.94%
Fox News reported that turnout is still expected to rise throughout the day, but it is highly unlikely that it will reach the 2020 early voting turnout.
