Chief Art Acevedo received news Wednesday morning that a Houston Police Department officer may have taken part in infiltrating the U.S. Capitol Building on January 6th.
Local news outlets reported that Acevedo received a tip pointing to social media evidence that an 18-year veteran of HPD was likely to have stormed the Capitol.
“There’s a high probability that this individual faces federal charges,” Acevedo said. “I’ll be surprised if they show up Friday to my hearing.”
Acevedo who has not been shy about his politics and has been publicly critical of the President, has been posting regularly on Twitter recently condemning the attack on the Capitol as well as calling for accountability for crimes committed.
The HPD officer may be the first of other Houstonians that went to D.C., according to the police chief.
“We know a lot of folks went to DC out of Houston,” Acevedo said.
