Incumbent Jeff Leach has successfully defended his seat in Texas House District 67, defeating Democratic challenger Makala Washington in one of the most closely watched races of the election cycle.
At the time this article was published, Leach had received 48,905 votes (60.7%) to Washington’s 31,638 votes (39.3%).
Leach, who earned key endorsements from Governor Greg Abbott, the NRA, and the Texas Home School Coalition Association, faced significant opposition from the far-right wing of his party after leading fellow House Republicans in the impeachment of Attorney General Ken Paxton. Despite Paxton’s efforts to unseat him by backing primary challengers, Leach prevailed and maintained enough support to win the general election.
Leach’s victory ensures continued Republican representation in HD67, though the district remains competitive as Collin County continues to evolve.
