The election for Texas House District 121 concluded on Tuesday night, with Republican candidate Marc LaHood successfully defending his seat against Democratic challenger Laurel Swift.
At the time this article was published, LaHood had received 50,807 votes (52.6%) against Swift, who received 45,816 votes (47.4%).
LaHood, a prominent lawyer, emerged as a significant figure in the district after defeating incumbent Republican Steve Allison in the GOP primary, largely due to his strong support from Governor Greg Abbott. His campaign emphasized parental choice in education, advocating for private school vouchers and securing substantial funding from Abbott.
In his primary election victory speech, LaHood asserted that District 121 voters support private school vouchers, framing education as an opportunity issue free from political labels. His platform contrasted sharply with Swift’s calls for increased public school funding and her opposition to vouchers.
